"Mankind is a single body and each nation a part of that body. We must never say 'What does it matter to me if some part of the world is ailing?' If there is such an illness, we must concern ourselves with it as though we were having that illness."

Would it be possible for you to put a copy of this extraordinarily compassionate speech up, I'd like to get it for a friend in NZ, but cannot find a copy

Dear Cathy,

Here is Ataturk's speech to the mothers of the ANZACs:

Those heroes that shed their blood And lost their lives...
You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country.
Therefore, rest in peace.
There is no difference between the Johnnies
And the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side,
Here in this country of ours.
You, the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries...
Wipe away your tears.
Your sons are now lying in our bosom
And are in peace.
After having lost their lives on this land, they have
Become our sons as well.

Kind regards,

After tens of thousands Turkish lives have been lost in defense of Turkey Ataturk is still beeing considered as a savior of Turkey. What a shame! the souls of those countless Turkish martyrs is still crying from the grave to be remembered no-less if not more than Kemal. This is the man who shamelessly called those invaders who died in Turkey while fighting as 'HEROES'. How can that be possible? Somebody who came to kill you, occupy your country and then died is a criminal, a villain or an enemy and nothing else. But your Kemal rather than honoring the dead Turkish soldiers he chose to go around Australia and other countries and tell their people that their children who fought Turkey were heroes. As a TURK , I am insulted by that. I think u all are.
If we want TURKEY to unite toward a common goal of becoming a developed democratic country for God's sake lets get rid of this KEMALOMANIA DISEASE. And rather focus on what unites us rather than what divides us. I hope sane minds will wake up and shrug off this bullshit that is holding TURKIYE from advancing.
I wish u all the best. I mean no offense to anyone! Just exercising my freedom of expression through cyber space.

You have a lot to learn my friend. Just read a few real books, then you'll see how much nonsense you are talking. Why do you think he calls them heroes? You don't know, but you are ready to insult him. Such a shame. Do you know why Australian soldiers were here? Do you think they were here, because they wanted to have our country? They had no idea about even where they are. They were just slaves of English army, and they had no idea about why they were having a fight. But we killed them. We had to. They were innocent, they had to fight. They had to. Can't you see a contradiction here? Why did we kill each other?
